Kraft’s Kreelex – Baitfish Streamer
Tournament-Proven Fly for Trout, Smallmouth & More
The Kreelex was developed by legendary fly tier Chuck Kraft in 1991 as a fly rod answer to the classic spinning lure. Originally nicknamed the “Rolex,” the name was later changed (for obvious reasons), and the Kreelex went on to become one of the most famous—and most copied—baitfish patterns of all time.
Chuck designed the Kreelex to imitate the flash, movement, and vibration of a fleeing baitfish. It’s often described as the “Panther Martin spinner” for fly anglers, and that comparison is dead-on: it’s a true reaction fly that triggers strikes when fish are hunting, competing, or simply feeling aggressive.
A true Kreelex isn’t just any flashy streamer—it’s tied with very specific materials that give it the signature action and profile the pattern is known for. That attention to detail is one reason the fly has dominated one-fly and two-fly tournaments worldwide for decades.
The Kreelex produces in both freshwater and saltwater, but it’s especially famous as a strike magnet for trout and smallmouth bass.
