Hook- Standard wire/length dry fly #12- straight eye / TMC101 or Daiichi D1110 or similar
Thread- Red 3/0 or similar
Tail- 30 to 35 fibers, shank length (thicker tail than typical fly)
Body- Red thread approximately 1/4 shank length; double layer thread
Hackle- Saddle hackle- 6 inches total length, dry fly quality
(<1mm web) near quill. Typically takes 2 or more saddle hackle feathers with all webbing removed, packed very densely during hackling forward.

These all require trimming the hackle to specific lengths. We use a round piece of plastic that we made that goes over the hook eye.
It is important to make sure you are using good hackle that has no webby parts to it.
Notes: Use bright color white and bright yellow hackles. Please make the a gage for each size. The tournament #2 fly cannot have any hackle longer than 1 inch, so there is 1/16" inch to work with.
