Wyoming is a place where fly fishing and the American West come together. Towering mountain ranges, sprawling sagebrush valleys, and thousands of miles of cold, clear water have made the Cowboy State a bucket-list destination for anglers from around the world. Whether floating a famous river or hiking into the backcountry, Wyoming offers endless opportunities to explore.
Legendary fisheries like the North Platte, Green, Snake, Bighorn, and Wind Rivers provide outstanding fishing for brown, rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout. The state is also home to Yellowstone cutthroat, Snake River cutthroat, and Colorado River cutthroat trout, along with countless alpine lakes and high-country streams that reward adventurous anglers with spectacular scenery and eager fish. Dry fly fishing reaches its peak during prolific hatches of salmonflies, caddis, and mayflies throughout the summer.
No discussion of Wyoming fly fishing is complete without mentioning Yellowstone National Park. Home to some of the most famous trout waters in the world, the park has inspired generations of anglers and helped shape modern fly fishing. Combined with world-class public access across much of the state, Wyoming remains one of America's greatest destinations for anyone who loves chasing trout with a fly rod.
