The Stubby Chubby is the younger sibling of the Chubby Chernobyl—but it’s very much its own fly. Instead of stretching the classic Chernobyl into endless sizes and color variations, this pattern was built from the ground up starting with the hook.
The Stubby is tied on the purpose-built XT050 Stubby T hook, featuring a short shank, wide gape, and a V-Lock forged bend that delivers outstanding hookup and holding power—even in smaller sizes. That’s what makes this fly so deadly: you get the confidence of a big-fly hookset, without needing to fish an oversized pattern.
Designed in more natural, realistic color options, the Stubby Chubby is a go-to attractor whenever caddis, stoneflies, ants, beetles, and small terrestrials are on the water. It floats long and strong, keeps a clean profile, and is built to be fished aggressively.
This fly was made to be dropped into fast water, then twitched, slapped, dragged, and drifted—and it simply refuses to sink.
