The Big Y General Fly Reel is a proven workhorse built for anglers who want one reel capable of handling everything from trout and Euro nymphing to steelhead, salmon, and serious saltwater fishing.
From Abaco, Belize, and Christmas Island to Xcalak, the Yucatan, and Zambia, the General has been fished hard around the world. Its fully machined 6061-T6 aluminum construction provides the strength and rigidity needed for demanding fishing without the premium price tag of many comparable reels.
A full-cage frame adds durability while keeping thin running lines, mono rigs, and ultra-fine Euro nymphing lines securely contained between the spool and frame. That makes the General equally at home on a two-handed rod, Euro setup, or saltwater outfit.
Inside is a sealed multi-disc drag built from stainless steel, nano carbon, and cork/Teflon components. The 5/6 and 7/8 use a six-disc system, while the larger 9/10 steps up to seven discs for increased stopping power. The drag provides smooth startup, plenty of adjustment, and dependable pressure whether we're protecting lighter tippets or putting the brakes on a powerful fish.
