A classic has been reborn. The Medalist has been around for ages and if you’re an avid angler, chances are you’ve heard the name. Pflueger has updated the aesthetics, however, to continue the timeless tradition of the Medalist. This reel is perfect for anglers who prefer click-and-pawl fly reels, want an old-fashioned aesthetic.
Design
Classic Aesthetics - The Medalist is built with an old-fashioned style reminiscent of fly reels past. Since its inception, however, Pflueger has updated the aesthetics to cater to the modern-day angler. Machined aluminum, a durable drag system, increased porting, and a full frame design make this reel a stylistic choice that’s also high performing.
Finish
Anodized Finish - The Medalist is first machined then deep anodized for increased durability. Anodizing finishes the bar stock aluminum in a durable finish and holds up well when dropped or dinged. Anodizing is used on many fly reels today for its protective coat.
Materials
Bar Stock Aluminum - The Medalist is forged from bar stock aluminum for a lightweight, rugged design that holds up to anything the angler throws at it. The vented porting on this reel is done intelligently to decrease overall reel weight without decreasing durability. Bar stock aluminum is popular in the fly fishing industry because of its strong, resilient nature.
Drag
Type - The Medalist has a traditional click-check drag mechanism. This click-drag contributes to the reel’s classic aesthetics and traditional functionality. This drag system isn’t going to stop the largest fish in the ocean, but it’s a beautifully sounding reel for freshwater Spey/Switch applications.
Materials - The click-check drag system on the Medalist is made with titanium materials. The drag system is simple, easy to clean, and traditional but remains durable for the life of the reel.
Arbor Size
Traditional Arbor - The Medalist has a traditional arbor, much different than many contemporary fly reels. This traditional arbor allows anglers to add backing or running line to the reel without worrying about overfilling it. The reel’s traditional arbor also accommodates thicker Spey and Switch fly lines for increased two-handed performance.
Warranty
Pflueger Warranty - As of December 2019, Pflueger warrants to the original owner that its products are free from defects in materials or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. Pflueger is not responsible for normal wear and tear, abuse, accidents, or alterations.
