Chilean Patagonia is home to some of the world's great trout fisheries, with wild browns and hard-fighting rainbows spread across an incredible landscape of rivers, lakes, spring creeks, and glacial valleys. From throwing large dry flies along grassy banks to stripping streamers through deep turquoise water, the variety of trout fishing alone is enough reason to make the trip.

But Chile has another fish that is quickly earning international attention: King Salmon. Self-sustaining runs of Chinook now return to several Patagonian river systems, giving fly anglers the opportunity to hook one of the largest and most powerful freshwater fish they'll ever encounter.

Depending on where and when you fish, there are also opportunities for sea-run brown trout, brook trout, and other salmon species, adding even more variety to an already remarkable fishery.

Big trout, enormous salmon, wild rivers, and some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere — Chile deserves a spot near the top of any fly angler's travel list.
