April 2018 #3
From the angler: "I'll try to keep it shor t… I was fishing with my best friend Scott opening weekend in McKeen County PA, and we fished our favorite Marvin fly fishing only stream for about 5 hours with no luck. We decided to try another area we like about 40 min away. We stopped for lunch at a mini mart – and in the checkout line, I realized I didn't have my Grandpa's Famous Lucky Fishing Candy. I ran down the aisles and found a bag right where they should be. Checked out and drove on to our spot at Kinzua while eating Swedish Fish. I got to our spot, suited up, and hit the first hole just downstream from where we parked. The bag of Swedish fish in my wader pouch. I watched this fish follow my squiggly wiggly worm for about 20 min... Then tied on an orange egg and she followed it too for about 15. Changed again this time tying on a BigYFlyCo Y2K and popped 2 more Swedish fish in my mouth - 2 casts and BAM!! Fish hit and ran like I've never seen before. Up and down stream, back and forth. 20/25 Min later I finally got her in my net. The biggest rainbow trout I've ever caught!!! My Grandpa always said you need some lucky fishing candy on your way out & while fishing. By golly Grandpa was smiling down from heaven, and right there with me when I caught that Monster! Just over 25.5 inches – *Photo attached*.
I can't explain the feeling – my friend and the people around me were wanting to help me net it. I just kindly said "No Thanks – We got this!" All took pictures and high fived me when she was in the net. I quickly got her back in the water, got her gills full of water and moving, and released her back to be enjoyed by another fisherman someday. There was a young kid with his grandpa fly fishing a few hundred yards up from where I caught the big one. Slowly they moved their way towards me over 30 min or so … When they got to me they moved past and fished below me out of the hole I was in. I started conversation with them, and the young boy was working a streamer and being coached by his Grandpa. I called him up to my hole – showed him 3-4 additional trout that were following my Y2K. He only had a streamer – so I handed him 4 of my Y2K's out of my pack, high fived him, and said have fun!
I moved on downstream to meet up with my buddy and keep fishing. We both caught 7-8 each that day on Y2K's. It was a great day – and very memorable start to the 2018 trout season.
I can't say thank you enough … Thank you again for your passion and products you provide to the fishing community!! If it wasn't for your Y2K – I wouldn't be telling this story for the rest of my life. I'll be ordering again from you soon! Take care – and keep up the great work!!!!"
